MINER DISPUTES: A NIGHT OF DISCOURSE TO BENEFIT THE NEVADA UNION HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE TEAM
MONDAY, OCTOBER 8th, 2012
STONEHOUSE RESTAURANT, Nevada City
The Nevada County Bar Association is hosting a kick-off fundraiser for the Nevada Union High School Debate Team on Monday, October 8th at the Stonehouse Restaurant in downtown Nevada City. Doors open at 5:30pm with appetizers by Blue Ginger Catering, followed by 3 rounds of debate on current events. Tickets are $20 and include 4 voting tokens. Additional voting tokens are $5 each.
Each debate will feature four brilliant student advocates presenting arguments for and against each topic. Michael Cobden and Valerie Logsdon, President and Vice President of the NC Bar Association, will facilitate a lively cross-examination by audience members, and conclude each debate with an audience vote by purchased tokens to determine the winning team.
Debate topics include:
- Resolved: Stand your ground laws are a legitimate expansion of the self-defense doctrine.
- Resolved: Nevada County should prohibit marijuana dispensaries.
- Resolved: President Obama ought to be re-elected.
Many thanks to the Nevada County Bar Association for its eagerness to help the efforts of the Debate Boosters to save the debate program at Nevada Union, and for understanding the value of rigorous research and public speaking skills. All proceeds from the Bar Association’s fundraiser go to the Nevada Union Debate Team Boosters.
